In the past DVLA have written to me somewhere in the region of three months before my license is due to expire, on two occassions the license has been renewed seemingly by return of post of my medical reports.

On one occassion it wasn't replaced until a day or two prior to the current license expiring.

My current license expires at the end of October 09, so I've been waiting on the reminder and forms to arrive - nothing by the time I got back from holiday in August, I've sent an email to DVLA advising them that I haven't received the renewal pack, has it indeed been sent?

I was just wondering how others are finding DVLA and the renewals times recently?

On another point, is it just Wiltshire or are there other parts of the country where significant amounts of post seem to be vanishing of late?? 🙄

My last renewal pack travelled by Royal Mail from Swansea to East Anglia, about late Nov 08, for expiry date in mid Feb 09. However, there has been postal stikes in some areas, so if Swansea or Wiltshire are affected, that migh be an explanation - they might hold onto forms rather than sending them into a strike, where they would be stuck for an unknown period.
Hope you get an answer by email soon to clear up the matter.

neither swansea or wiltshire have been effected since the strikes began on the 17th august

I was sent out my renewal 3 months before. My lisense expires 15th September, and my new one only came through on Monday so they cut it pretty fine. I had to ring twice to chase things up. I am a bit upset as they only issued a 1 year one this time. Hope your chasing has worked and you can get your renewal.

Thanks for the comments!

Here is the answer from DVLA - essentially when I managed to get through to someone who understood how to use typetalk, it was a case of 'oh yes, we've just written to you [today] asking you to return your license'.

I waited, as I need to type responces, it's quite good, if I'd been in a voice conversation I'd have shot the lady down there an then. But I listened.

'Your driving license has the wrong expiry date on the front, it should be July 2010 as the dates in the very small print state on the back. Very sorry that you've had to chase us, but thank you for bringing it to our attention!'

So, the lesson from this is that there are at least two areas on the driving license where the expiry date is stated - on the front and on the rear by the license classes!

Really good it took them two and a half years to realise this 😱

Still, saves me having new mug shots done for them :D
