Cockermouth's old hospital is set to be demolished at the beginning of next year.
The cottage hospital, built more than 100 years ago, is no longer needed as an ?11 million new build has been constructed next door.
NHS bosses have this week revealed plans to knock down the old building and replace it with a ?wildflower meadow?.
Iain Todd, agent for the hospital, said that work is expected to begin in January.
?The building is no longer needed as a new hospital has been built,? said Mr Todd. ?The site is to be returned to a wild flower meadow.?
