I am due to have a CTC Angiogram after a recent chest pain episode.
I understand that I will have iodine used to colour the blood as they monitor flow through heart using CT scanner. I have t let them know if I am diabetic, which I will do tomorrow.

Is anyone aware of any issues relating to this procedure? I use a pump so as far as I am concerned I just need to unplug for the duration of the scan and then reconnect.

Can't advise on the pump side of things but just wanted to wish you luck for the tests.

Hi SB2015. I'm T2 and I had a CT scan in March on my bladder & kidneys - I had a Canula inserted into my arm in which the iodine was injected - it didn't hurt - but as the iodine flowed through my veins I began to feel a warm glow all over - it wasn't an unpleasant feeling - following the first scan more iodine was injected and I had another scan. During both scans a recorded male voice told me to take in a big breath - hold it - then said when i could exhale. My scan only took about 15 -20 minutes. I don't know how long your Angiogram scan will take.

Initially I let the radiologists know that I'm diabetic but found out later that it was already on my case notes anyway but I think you should make aware that you're T1 diabetic. I'm sorry I can't advise you as to your pump as I'm not T1. But what I will say is try not to worry unduly - I'm sure your scan will go as planned. I hope your results are in your favour & nothing serious is found. Good luck, take care and do please let us know how your scan went.

Hi SB2015. Sorry I cant advise on the pump.
I've had the same procedure as Wirralass a couple of times and also to do a bit of plumbing (unblocking) in one leg, I was sedated for that one and allowed to wake several times.
The actual scan is nowt to worry about, you're not enclosed, the scanner reminds me of a huge ring donut, which a table slides you through if necessary. Its a tad noisy is all. An automated voice tells you what to do.
The dye can give you a warm glow for a few minutes, I found it pleasant.
For a few seconds you may or may not feel as though you're doing a wee, they will tell you if this is likely. Don't worry bout this as you're not doing one.
I hope you hear all is fine afterwards.
Let us know how you get on

This scan is of my heart. I will let you know here w it goes.

T2 on metformin only.
I had an angiogram a couple of years ago. Some others on here have too. I don't know about the CTC or CT scanner bits. I was in an OR and could see the (VDU/TV) screen that the video image was shown on. It looked like an x-ray to me.
In the note I had before a canceled procedure I was told to stop taking metformin. When I eventually had it done, I was told to have my GP practice do a blood test before starting metformin again.

Hee hee! - they normally do all the diabetics first before the ordinary plebs,

Me and T2 chap were laughing about this when we both had a cataract done on the same day. We think they had to toss up to decide who got done first !

We both agreed, it does have its advantages sometimes!

Your right there . I was first in line for my bladder biopsy , which I was real happy about, no hanging around like the other poor things.

There shouldn't be any problem, but as others have noted, you might get an odd warming feeling. For reasons unknown, that feeling settled down to having a warm perineum, exactly like the warmth of wetting yourself. I almost burst out laughing at that, which would have blurred the pictures of the pancreas they wanted. That is not uncommon, so don't worry if you feel it - it's not real🙂

Hi. I had an angiogram last year. The scanner was not a tunnel thingie but sat overhead and rotated. The actual angiogram lasted about 30 minutes and was completely pain free. They went in thru my wrist and you could hardly see the entry point by the end of the day and no bruising. It took about 3 hours after the angiogram to gradually deflate the cute balloon thingie which is used to pressure the artery to stop any bleeding. I had a day bed, so take book etc. The staff were amazing and I lost count of them.

Hi SB I had an angiogram 2 weeks ago and it was totaly different to the one I had 4 years ago. The scanner was about the size of a biscuit tin as opposed to the very large one 4 years ago. The site on my wrist that they did it is also more like an injection site than a small cut the previous time. If they do do it in your wrist they will put a clamp on as soon as they are finished and they start to slaken it off after about 2 hours and then every 30 mins until it comes off , this takes about another 2 hours they then like to leave it another hour before they send you home . Good luck and hope they don't find anythink to bad. With mine they found that I need a by-pass on my heart as well as the valve replacement that I already knew about.

I just wanted to wish you luck, too 🙂

With regards to your pump, I would first question how long the exam will take. If it's only 30 mins or so then I'm assuming you'll be okay? Only because I've read people unplug to go swimming etc but that could be c**p advice lol but as you'll have no active insulin on board, if it's longer it may cause a problem
