Hi all having to change my diet dramtically as i have a little un on the way and im more than happy to do so - ive cut out loads.

was just wondering if anyone new which is the lowest gi type crisp or which would cause less of a spike, its not for an everyday thing but id like to know if i wanted a pack which would be the less blip causing, i was thinking maybe skips? as there light?

anyone know or have ideas?

cheers guys 🙂

Hello from a crisp addict! :D As for GI, I suspect you would want a non diet type, as the fat will slow the sugar release, and the less processed the better, so I guess thick cut potatoe? All in all I suspect there may not be a huge amount if difference in it, & frankly with all the strife of a diabetic pregnancy a bag of crisps is probably not a bad treat! 😉

ISTR Quavers may fit the bill and I have to say Tesco's own brand 6 packs of 'Cheesy Curls' @ 9.5g Carbs and 5.4g fat per 17g weight bag, (you get quite enough in each bag, don't feel cheated like you do with multipack crisps when you look in the bag) are most satisfactory for me, and don't spike because of the fat, but then Quavers are my faves and I ain't preg ......

Snack-a-Jacks sour cream and onion for me please, feels like you've eaten something, fairly low fat and under 100 cal in a standard bag.

Tyrells Crisps are very nice and the Co Op also do their own version. HUbby likes vegetable ceisos but I am not so keen.

I have skips more often then not and now special k have brought out these light crisps in a box there lovely

Skips will probably be better because you simply get less in a pack - according to the nutritional info, a pack of Skips weighs 17g and so contains around 10g of carbs.

I would avoid the thicker cut crisps - by definition, they will be heavier and contain more carbs. I would look at the vegetable crisps that are out there -the sweet potato and beetroot ones have around half the carbs of regular potato ones.

LOL - I only like the parsnip ones of them though deus, and they really aren't to be recommended unless you is planning on otherwise being hypo in a few hours!

My daughter has skips, quavers or wotsits and it doesn't impact on her BG's so far.

I've gone for skips first 🙂 and hopefully that'll work, next stop quavers 🙂 thanks everyone

I love veggie crisps. I'm not sure what you mean about the hypos though?

Cheddars have 15g in a bag. Sunbites the same - and they are higher in fibre - I don't find they spike me.

Well the parsnip ones will spike you, but not straight away Mary, they sit round in hiding waiting to jump out and surprise you later, cos of the fat content !

So if you were planning on having a hypo at whatever time the parsnip crisps decided to do that, you'd be OK.

ie it was a joke ......
