So 5 month since diagnosed with type 2 .Apart from Oviva help I’m struggling as no contact with doc and a wasted pharmacist appointment ( who is all I’ve been in contact with ) as can’t have my bloods tested due to shortage of blood vials. So no idea how I’m doing .
I’m struggling with small snack ideas ,I miss having biscuit with my cup of tea in the evenings and puddings after tea .
Should I go cold turkey from sugar or still have a little.
feeling a bit overwhelmed as really don’t know if I’m doing the right things .
Thank you
I found it was easier to switch to a different taste.
I stopped the sweet foods, and went for chillies and spicey food.
I needed to lose weight, so I cut out snacking in-between meals as well.

Hi @Piggle15 and welcome to the forum.
We all have different tastes, determination etc. So some will do better easing off sugary things slowly where others will do better stopping them completely. Oh, and for us Type 2's it isn't just sugar, we need to watch out for all digestible carbohydrates starches like grain and potato too because they turn into glucose soon after we eat them. Obviously since carbs are in most things, very few cut their carbs down to keto levels, but just getting them down a bit will help.
As @travellor says, for most of us it is best to cut out the snacks, but if you must snack have one that is low in carbohydrates such as cheese, nuts, or eggs (I used to prepare boiled eggs in advance ready for eating).
The problem with snacking on something with carbs in it is that this will tend to raise your Blood Glucose (or at least stop it declining) and give you insulin a boost. The longer you can go between meals the more your body gets time to recover back to it's original normal state from what it has recently got accustomed to.
If you still need a 'sweet' hit then protein nut bars like Nature Valley or KIND or shop own may be sufficient ( I cut them in quarters and just have 1 with my afternoon cuppa) but even the whole bar is about 10g carb.
A few nuts are OK.
Puddings can be sugarfree jelly with berries and cream, full fat yoghurt with berries or quark bases high protein deserts, strawberries and cream
Have a look for Keto deserts for some suggestions of recipes. They keep popping up on my computer.
There no longer is any shortage of blood vials - though there was indeed a glitch a few weeks ago. The prostate cancer charity my husband and I are both Trustees of were just about to host an event for approx 150 men to test their blood for PSA levels but the Lab we send the vials to for the testing told us not to panic and just sent 3.5ml vials instead of the usual 5ml ones.
Alternatively you can plot your own progress (using a glucometer and spot checking with 'fingerprick' blood tests as you go along if you want to? Just say and we'll point you at the cheapest reliable meters and test strips the forum has found.
