Listening to Chesney Hawkes on repeat for eight hours straight has helped a supermarket worker become charity champion of the year.

Cranham grandmother-of-eight Lesley Dunn, who works at the Roneo Corner Tesco store in Romford, received the Diabetes UK national award at a lavish ceremony held at The Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square.

She was nominated for her fundraising efforts for Tesco over the last 12 months, which included organising a Stars in Their Aisles show, a sponsored silence and even persuading her store manager to sell kisses on Valentines Day.

“I was very proud when I was nominated for the award,” said Lesley, 63. “To win is unbelievable as I know so many colleagues across the country have raised a lot of money.
