I used to get cramp all the time pre diagnosis. Sometimes in my feet but usually in my legs and it'd wake me up in the middle of the night, sooooo painful, and I always found it difficult to walk on for a few days after! I don't get it so much now and if I do it's usually after a run of high sugars.

You have my sympathy!

Yeah I had this too.

I dont think the doctors believed that it was to do with diabetes because they thought that would only happen after years of having badly controlled diabetes and getting circulatory problems 🙄

thanks katie (again!)

its gone now but i wonder if anyone goes to chirpodists to get their feet checked?

I'm off next Wednesday to have mine looked at. Apparently, they call them podiatrists these days, not sure why!

I too had cramp at night mainly but also during day pre-diagnosis, was pretty damn painful, would wake up 3-4 times a night.

had none of it since my levels have been down.

I hope you rid of it soon (actually to anyone with it)

I was told it was a symptom of diabetes, it was on the 'checklist' the doctor went through with me before I got a blood test, along with the more typical things like thirst, weight loss etc

Well, there you go - I used to get it a lot at night pre-diagnosis, particularly in the arch of my foot but also in my calf muscle. Hardly ever happens now, thank goodness, maybe because my sugars are under control? Wouldn't wish it on anyone!😱

is it free to see one of these feet people then as have been diabetic for 7 years and not been the best controlled person in the world, its starting to make me panic. Did you go to hospital or see a specialist pedatrist? Apologies for bad spelling, have a new phone and am trying out the internet on it! X

It should be a standard part of your diabetic care to get your feet checked every six months, or whenever you feel there may be a problem - you should ask your GP or DSN - I'm shocked you haven't had this done as a matter of course!

My diabetes specialist is the only person who has looked at my feet

Yeah, I'm off to see my doc this afternoon and he's gonna check my feet out! I don't envy him.

I was getting cramp really bad at night around a year ago, my Dr prescribed a course on quinnine and it sorted it out. I had a crampy feeling and painful leg last night, which might have been related to the fact I was up to 21 last night.

I am going to podiatory next week, i have been once before and was discharged because there was nothing they could do for me, have been re-refered as have blisters on my feet.

Get cramp in feet, right calf, hand and rarely - thank goodness - rectum.
Medic says this is not diabetes related but more poor circulation.

They 'forgot' to refer me to podiatrist on diagnosis. Now awaiting an appointment.
Used to cut out corn under ball of rt. foot with a nicely shaped scalpel been told only the podiatrist can do this.

So cramp is something else I can put in my "that was probably caused by high blood sugar" box.

Cramp is no fun at all, you all have my sympathy.

cramp in your rectum!?!?

really!?!?

i got a date with my DSN on 20th April but they have never asked to look at my feet, they ask how my stools are (to which i reply "yeah just fine thanks")

will let u know what she says, but omg, it is blooming painful, even though i had the cramp last night, i can still feel where it was...

Many moons ago I got really bad cramp in my legs and toes, it hurts, went to drs many times about it and now have to take 300mg of quinine sulphate tables every night. I also get warm sensations in my legs and have been told it is when my BS are high, not sure as i have tested my sugars and they have been fine.
