i have been shielding due to my diabetes team saying covid is very dangerous for me I have Addison’s disease but that was not their concern has anybody else been shielding also I have had my firs covid jab but that is due to me working for the nhs and it could also be that I work at the hospital that they have put me in shielding anybody else been told to shield

Well lucky you 🙂 We're both 70+, both designated clinically extremely vulnerable (me T1, PAD & emphysema, husband now 73 as of yesterday with COPD 50% lung capacity on a good day) both tested positive for Covid the first week of December (he lost his sense of taste for 7-10 days, I was just mega tired, then the week before Xmas my BG shot up ridiculously but no blood ketones for a week-10 days and back to normal now. Nothing whatsoever heard about our jabs as yet.

Only person in our immediate circle who as had a first jab is 16yo healthy grand daughter who has a part time evening job cleaning at the Hospital.

The NHS is definitely taking care of its own as a priority - and so it should IMHO!

I know if many Type 1 and Type 2's that have continued working the front line throughout so I wouldn't say that was their reason for putting you into shielding xx

I had covid first week nov must say felt terrible hospital were concerned about my breathing still felt bad six weeks later only thing now is my concentration hope you get yr jabs soon

I am a fit and healthy 56yr old Type 1 with what I consider to be mild seasonal asthma and I rather resent the fact that I got shielding letters as it makes me feel like a fraud. I consider myself at much lower risk than most since I live rurally and don't have much contact with people young or old, just animals. I limit my risk myself but otherwise continue as normal.

I haven't heard anything about the vaccine yet but our area here in the North East of England is supposed to be quite ahead of the game with them. I will be happy to get it when I am offered but I would hate to be placed above someone who has a much greater risk than myself, so I am just quietly waiting for an invitation as and when it comes.

I had to go through occupational health as well they also said I am not to go to work at the moment and that I am not to put myself right in the middle of the pandemic at the hospital I worked on a ward where they thought would be the safest place to put me and it wasn’t my work have even told me to stay at home and I must say I would rather be working

I suspect as the OP has Addisons Disease aswell is the reason for shielding.
That's why I was given loads of shielding letter (steroids tend to leave you open to infection)

I don’t think some people understand what addisons is must say when I was first put on steroids I was evil and impossible to live with they had to lower them in the end but they wanted to higher the dose again said no so they just up the does of fludrocortisone

if OH have instructed you to stop at home then that is about it till they give you the all clear to go back to work.

i used to work in a large hospital and know what OH are like nothing you can do and it isn't your fault.

covid is very dangerous as i have just recently lost my partner to it.

I am so very sorry for yr loss I was very frightened when I had it my husband was so frightened but the hospital and doctors kept an eye on me and I kept an eye on my oxygen levels once again so sorry x

Welcome to the forum @Amanda smiley

We have a few members who have shielded throughout, either because they were ‘on the list’ and had the letter (usually because of multiple conditions adding risk, and others who have elected to self-isolate because they felt it was better for them.

We also have some who have had shielding letters but who have carried on going out and about in a limited way because they felt safe to do so in their location.

Glad you‘ve mostly recovered from covid. Thanks for the work you are doing as part of the NHS

As you have a pump there is no reason why you can not have the normal dose of steroid for Addison's. which is between 20-25mgHC per day split in either 2 or 3 doses a mix of pred and HC worked very well for me whilst working on the farms.
If your team want you on a higher dose than what you are on there has to be a reason for it. Having an Addison's crisis is no fun and life threatening.

It was more to do with how I was feeling when I got covid and I did higher the doses a lot I think this is what got me through it but when I went back to normal dose I was getting bad heads all back to normal now just concentration gone a bit believe me I know what a crisis is and know all the signs and suck day rules like you say not nice at all
