Covid vaccine problems

had my first vaccine Friday and things didn't go according to plan. had a nice allergic reaction itching all over which was reported.

any way yesterday got the nice flu type symptoms got to early evening and sat thinking if it is giving flu type then would it be worth taking vit C. i took a high dose vit C and then went to bed. woke up a few hours later and no symptoms so the question is did the high dose of vit C counteract the side effects? input welcome.

also with me getting an allergic reaction to the Astra what happens now would i be allowed the second dose or is it a case of that is that?

at least i got my little kiddies badge 🙂
 
If you'd had anaphylactic shock from the vaccine then it quite probably would not be a brilliant idea to have another dose. As you didn't, and the side effects from the 2nd AZ dose are reported to be less than with the 1st one, plus you have anti histamine relief to hand - IMHO I'd say don't worry about it.

No idea whatever about the flu-ey symptoms and Vit C.
 
Sorry to here you had adverse reactions Mikey. Did you take paracetamol for the flu type symptoms which is what they advise when you get the jab or just the vitamin C? I doubt anyone will ever be able to say if the Vitamin C worked but I would take both antihistamines and paracetamol proactively for the second jab.

i took paracetamol every 4 hours but wasn't doing much so decided to take a high dose Vit C and as the flu symptoms had gone within a few hours.

i all ways carry allergy relief and under normal circumstances if something gives me an allergic reaction i then avoid it in future. the concern was that it made the roof of my mouth sore and deeper down along with the constant itch and some redness of the palms.

i am still taking histamine as i am still getting the odd itching going on.

all i can do is see what the doctors say as i have been asked to have a chat about what went on.

I think best thing would be to let your medical folks know of the reactions you have had.

Itching and/or a rash are quite a common side effects, and the flu-like symptoms common too. I had a horrid headache and a few aches, which I consider was my body reacting the the vaccine and probably working hard to create some decent antibodies.

My OH's daughter who has several allergies and a significantly depleted compromised auto-immune system due to historic (successful) cancer treatment was not allowed (by her consultant) to have the Pfizer jab, but permitted to have the AZ. As a HCP, she was told it was fine provided any reactions were not anaphalactic. An anaphalactoid reaction would be considered OK, which raised an eyebrow for me.

I appreciate you are not an HCP but it possibly emphasises why you should ensure your reaction should be made known to the relevant folks for consideration.
 
i reported it to 111 who then passed it on to the doctors and i have to chat with them sometime Monday.

i do suffer with numerous allergies myself. the problem was just not itching but it also made the inside of my mouth sore and deeper down in the track.

surprised by the anaphalactoid been considered okay as any reaction can turn out to be dangerous pending how it pans out.

as of last night it was still carrying on and also getting a few hive breakouts.

if it was medication i could just stop it but this is not the same situation.

speaking to the doctors today
 
stronger histamine has been issued due to hive breakouts and have to discuss further when the time gets near with the possibility of mixing the vaccine.
 
I hope the stronger anti-histamine works.
My brother in law and nephew both had flu like symptoms, which went overnight too.
 
the chemist messed and and didn't deliver the anti-histamine. sods law late last night i got a really bad histamine allergy attack only had piriton to deal with it. gets up this morning to find right foot tendon painful.

sorry to say i won't be having the second astra dose i honestly think more work is needed with this vaccine, most people will be okay with it but for some like me the side effects or whatever is going on with it are just too severe and darn right risky.
 
Anaphylactoid reactions are fairly common with vaccines of any sort. You can’t stop that. That’s why they ask about allergies before they give the immunisation. I don’t think AZ will be persuaded to do more more work on the vaccine, there’s nothing they can do to make it perfect for everyone.
 
yep they asked about allergies before the jab which i told them i suffered from but when it came to the jab there was no 15 minuet wait afterwards they just asked me to leave straight after injecting. if they had followed the procedure to get me to wait then they could of started dealing with the allergic reaction, sadly this didn't happen.

i have spoken to other people who have had the vaccine at other places in the area and they were asked to wait the 15 minuets before then leaving.

still got to remember Mike that this is a rushed out vaccine allowed on emergency licence. i have had plenty of other vaccines and none have caused problems like this one did and i am not alone with the problems it is causing afterwards.
 
There is no need to wait 15 mins with the AZ jab only if youhad the Pfizer vaccine or if you are driving. I was straight in and out when I had my first AZ jab and expect to be again with my second dose tomorrow. Just hoping it doesn't send my BG any higher as my basal dose is still increased following the first jab.

Yes, and they're rather careful with the Pfizer one. After I had my second dose they gave me a little sticker with a written time on it and I wasn't to leave until after that time.

I have colleagues who have had a myriad of adverse reactions to all 3 - Astra Zeneca, Pfizer and now Moderna.

Most severe reactions from those I've eluded to are AZ recipients with underlying health conditions - one was very ill and off work for 10 days.

In the early days, I think many, if not most delayed patients leaving after their AZ jabs, in line with the Pfizers. Certainly when I had my first, that was the case at our local Hub.

These days, those having the AZ jabs are not required to wait after their dose is administered, and in fact at least one of our local surgeries administers the jab to their patients who remain standing throughout. They walk into the hall, are asked to prepare their receiving arm and directed to the next available Vaccinator, who administers the dose as the patient stands in front of them. Once done, the patient walks away, and out of the building.

In the numerous shifts I have completed at the Hub, I have seen more issues due to patients stumbling on their way in than anything else.
 
I had to wait 15 mins after the Astra Zeneca as I have allergies. I think the GP was quite pleased as it gave him something to do and he sat with me for the full 15 mins! He said they wouldn’t have given me the Pfizer as there is a higher risk of a reaction.
I felt a bit unwell for about 24 hours but only what is to be expected.
