If this work turns out to be a valid description of the behaviour of COVID antibodies then it has quite important implications with regard to the strategy needed to handle the virus in the future. The idea that the pattern of infections will be more like the common cold than traditional flu is a bit disconcerting.

That's no surprise at all. Around 20% of common colds are caused by coronaviruses, one or two of which caused serious 'flu' outbreaks in the past. I expect Covid 19 to follow the same path ultimately.
