Covid-19 may cause sudden and permanent hearing loss, experts have found, adding that such problems need early detection and urgent treatment.

The coronavirus has been found to affect the body in myriad ways, from a loss of taste and smell to organ damage.

Now doctors have reported fresh evidence that Covid could also affect hearing.

Writing in the journal BMJ Case Reports, experts at University College London report the case of a 45-year-old man with asthma who was admitted to intensive care with Covid, ventilated, and given drugs including the antiviral remdesivir and intravenous steroids.

A week after leaving intensive care he developed a ringing sound – tinnitus – and then hearing loss in his left ear.

Another little possibility to digest for those who seem to think the virus is harmless to the under-80s and think we should just let it rip. I heard Isabelle Oakshott on Sky yesterday actually try to minimise the impact of uncontrolled transmission by saying that the average age at death is 82, which she then went on to say was 'beyond average life expectancy anyway'. Effectively saying people should be dead by that age so no biggy :( It affects people of all ages, and even if it's only a small percentage, when you are talking about a population the size of ours that's still a helluva lot of people well below 82 :(

That’s something that can happen in measles and mumps, and no doubt some other virus infections. This observation also applies to many other so-called COVID-19 signs and symptoms. There’s nothing -absolutely nothing - that distinguishes the new virus from many other infections, apart from we’re not used to having it around.

While a few of us have been dying from this virus - a million worldwide so far - at least half that number have died from malaria. Since I’ve been alive, a number of people greater than the population of the UK have died from malaria. This virus is an irritating wimp in comparison.

Let’s stop being terrified of it.

This year has been nothing but a perpetual fear campaign, absolutely relentless. It's turned into another "brexit" type operation in the media. Dividing the people into at least 2 opposing sides, just like brexit did. You've got those who've watched the 24hr news and bought everything that they've been told and on the other opposing side are those that have seen it for what it is.

Both the Covid19 campaign and the Brexit campaign have been very divisive, have split friends and families and created fear and bad feelings between people....and all it's left behind is closed businesses, unemployment and pretty much ended all meaningful human social activity.
