This new / emerging support network of local volunteers is trying to offer help to vulnerable people in their area.

They are not medical professionals, and are not a registered charity, but may be able to help if you are self isolating.

Its a goodwill network of ordinary people, so if you decide to approach them please be sensible and keep yourselves safe.

Just giving this a bump, in case it might help anyone struggling with accessing shopping/prescriptions at the moment.

Both son and daughter, who live in medium sized towns, have had flyers through the door from local churches with a similar network of volunteers. Where I live, the details of a scheme being co-ordinated from the community centre are available on our village website.
All these local schemes are available to anyone who needs help to contact, not just the officially shielded people. So worth looking on town/village websites, or contacting a local church if you need help.

I had a message from @Davein yesterday, which highlighted the help and support available through RVS which sounds very helpful for anyone with diabetes fully isolating who is finding it difficult as not on the Government’s list...

Hi Mike
I haven't found any threads on the forum mentioning about the Royal Volunteer Service in conjunction with the NHS Volunteer Responders now offering help to those socially isolating. This not only includes the 'extremely vulnerable' but those who are vulnerable including those with diabetes. You can phone 0808 196 3646 if you require assistance with shopping, medication or just a check in call. Could you put this out to the forum members if this hasn't been mentioned yet. Apologies if it has already been mentioned.

Really helpful - they run a café/shop within UHCW and that's 100% true, it's within the waiting room in that specific part of the hospital in which outpatient cancer treatment is delivered - not anywhere you'd ever see were you not in that category. Different entrance and everything else. Not where you go for consultations re cancer.

No other services for approx. 20 miles radius.

My GP practice has a daily update of services/help available this is posted on their main website and also linked via twitter and face book.

Thanks for flagging this up @Davein
Good to know that the help is ther for those that need it.

Gosh Sue, that sounds like they update their website regularly!!!! Simply never happened at ours.
