The advice for people with diabetes is to be extra careful with ‘social distancing’. We don’t need to fully isolate. 🙂

This page has the full details:

Full isolation is only recommended for people at extreme risk (eg those with cystic fibrosis, cancer or who have has transplants)

In answer to the question about your son, he should be guided by his GP. Bad asthmatics should self isolate for 12 weeks, but if he is not classified as such then social distancing is required. Depending where he works, he may be sent home anyway, along with all his colleagues.

The problem I have is that while I'm a T2 in remission, and with no other health issues, I'm also over 70. So on the one hand I qualify for just social distancing, on the other I have to stay indoors for 12 weeks on account of my age. So being 70+ trumps diabetes, it seems, and I'm staying home. Haven't been anywhere for 5 days now, but coping.

Martin, 70+ is the same as diabetes, 'stringent social distancing', but not isolation, though obviously you can choose to go that extra step if you want.

I am 73 type 1 and have COPD I have received a letter telling me to stay at home for twelve weeks. It is either that or die. You definitely do not want this. Stay at home!
