Counting Carbohydrates

Hi, I'm wondering how others count their carbohydrates:
- by reading the nutritional labels on packages
- by estimating the carbohydrate content or
- by weighing food

I nearly always
- read the nutritional labels on packages or
- estimate the carbohydrate content using my carbs and cals app or book
 
If it's something unfamiliar with me and I'm at home then it's the nutritional info on the packet (the other day I had to do it for lemon and herb couscous!) If I'm out and it's a chain restaurant then I may try and have a look on their website (some are far far better than others at displaying the info) I also have the carbs and cals app on my phone although I don't use it often. I have never weighed food.

The other day at work there were some yummy chocolate muffins, the nutritional info was for 100g of muffin but nowhere was a weight for either 1 muffin or the weight of the whole lot so that was just pure guess work. That really bugs me!
 
myfitnesspal app & website and by looking at the label if I don't have access to myfitnesspal.....

All 3 really- tend to weigh fruit/cereal
tend to buy same bread/rolls/wraps so know those off by heart
Work out total carbs for family dishes and weigh H's portion
Use carbs /cals when out
Otherwise guess work H pretty much gets it spot on but then tends to eat the same things when out/at mates etc
 
I think it does you good to actually weight stuff, even stuff you think you are 100% sure of.

For instance, one standard egg-sized boiled potato weighs 60g and = 10g carb.

At one time, my standard egg sized spud in my head, turned out to weigh nearer 80-90g ....... and I never have just the one!
 
You cant beat a set of scales...

Cabrs and cals is good for when out and for working out ratios of carbs to weight etc but I would still weigh what Im eating, some of those pictures are so deceptive they could be a mile out in my opinion.

On crisps, packet food etc Ill go by the nutrional labels.
