Councils to be banned from charging runners who take part in regular Saturday morning 'Parkruns'

Councils are to be legally banned from charging runners who take part in regular Saturday morning “Parkruns” after one event was abandoned when organisers were forced to pay a “wear and tear” fee.

A Government consultation is also examining whether councils will be allowed to charge professional dog walkers and personal trainers to use public parks.

There are 450 five kilometre parkruns in the UK. They all take place on Saturday, starting at 9am in England and Wales and 9.30am in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The later start in Scotland isn't to do with daylight hours, it's just an extra half hour to sober up after Friday night.

Councils really do have to try and save money/get money back from wherever they can unfortunately; so if they do really cost them more, then it surely just becomes part of everyone's rates bill? - or rather their considerations when setting the rates each year?

I'm surprised Lambeth (the Cop-out Council) haven't yet had the idea of charging Parkrun. 🙄 They do just about everywhere else...

I hope that this will force those idiots who already tried to charge Parkrun, to back down.
