hello all
I have just had spaghetti bolognaise for tea for the first time since I've been testing, I also had some garlic bread so a pretty carb heavy meal....but my readings one hour after were 7.8 and then two hours after 6.5
so I'm just wondering if pasta might not affect my blood sugars or if this is a freaky one off?

What type of pasta was it? Was it all normal white pasta and white garlic bread. If it is then it maybe you have not eaten much carbs today, or you are well controlled and the liver took it up, or if you exercised after your meal your body brakes it down better than if you are sedentary. If it is whole wheat pasta and whole meal garlic bread it may have slowed the glycemic load so it will take longer to brake down and be absorbed slower giving you virtually no spike in glucose level. also if It was particularly high in fat that can also slow the absorption of the carbs hope this helps

OTOH - I don't get a spike from pasta till 5 or 6 hours later ..... usually just after I go to bed, so I wake up for the toilet about 3am feel foul so test - and I'll be (eg) 12.0 ........

I had already had some carbs in the day, I am only just getting steady levels and those are in the 7s and 8s mostly though more 6s now too, I didn't exercise and it was white pasta and bread, it was a low fat sauce slimming world recipe though there was wine in it
maybe its as @trophywench suggested and I had the spike much later but didn't test for it then to be honest I don't feel anything when I spike I guess my body is still too used to having high levels of sugar so I slept through any possible spikes I suppose

Spikes don't normally cause symptoms unless they are super high for me. It's only if my levels are high over a prolonged period that I get the dry mouth and eyes.

You will notice this that your glucose levels creep down as the excess glucose is sucked out of every nook and cranny of your body I.e your eyes and CSF. You seem like you are going in the right direction nicely well done !!!

ah fair enough I thought I was just used to the high sugar, I actually had a false hypo the other day at least I think I did I certainly felt bad and my BG was 4.1 which I know isn't low but my body obviously thought it was!

thanks, there has been so much to process and try to change though I am trying I have had a couple of treats too currently hooked on malt loaf which is pretty high in sugar though it doesn't seem to be too bad on the BG at least at the two hour mark, I will have to stop it but I just have a craving for it currently and I do limit my sugar intake through the day, its the carbs I'm trying to work on lowering now I am mostly under what the low carb program allows but maybe I need to be lower haven't had chance to discuss with doctor yet either as I don't go back till the end of October until then I shall muddle along with the help of people here who have been great with my many questions

Foe me, pasta peaks very quickly. That's the thing, we are all different. Pizza takes 3-4 hours to peak with me.

My body often starts to warn me that I’m low around 4.2 . I also thingk it depends how fast we are dropping when we start noticing those signals.
Also meters are not dead accurate so it’s possible you were below 4.0 .
