So if being ill wasn't bad enough, I've been battling with my bloods ever since.

Had my Sunday basal on since well Sunday & not taken it off.

My pump handset has had a paddy & come up with an error so had to do everything manually today.

And now I have blood ketones (not high enough to warrant hospital)

But you know when you just want to battle illness without your diabetes being a pain?

So now have to get hold of the on call diabetes specialist at my local hospital as recommended by the lady at Roche

Sorry to hear you've been poorly Laura. Hope you manage to contact a knowledgeable person - I've never managed that out of hours :(

If your pump handset isn't working, have you phoned Roche? It should be immediately replaced (24 hour courier I think).

Not sure what type of illness you have, but if you aren't eating or have been sick, you can get starvation ketones even if your BG levels are normal or low. If your BGs are running high, keep on with the increased basal and frequent tests and corrections if necessary. If your BGs are normal/low and/or you aren't eating, do try and sip regular amounts of something sugary that you can bolus some insulin for. I'd try things like full sugar ribena or full sugar jellies. This (with insulin) will help rid you of the ketones as well as rehydrate you a little. Hope you feel better soon 🙂

P.S. Don't forget to have your insulin pen handy (with a cartridge in it that's been out of the fridge for less than 28 days). If a pump correction hasn't resulted in a downward shift after 90 minutes, make sure you correct by pen. Also, if you are high at bedtime or during the night, correct with your pen to give additional peace of mind that the insulin has definitely gone in, which you can never be 100% sure of with a pump cannula. And to keep track of how much insulin you've given yourself, disconnect your pump before injecting, bolus the same amount through the pump (allowing it to drip out of the end), then reconnect it - the insulin you have injected will then be recorded as IOB in your pump.

My bloods have been mainly ok until it gets to tea onwards & then it's going wrong.
I'm eating but after food I want to be sick, I feel a bit fluy tbh even tho I've had my jab 2 weeks ago.

Just spoken to a very rude doctor after asking to speak to the on call diabetes specialist who wouldn't let me even speak to explain why I was calling.

Roche said it's "not working" currently coz it thinks I've got too much insulin on board (but bloods are only 14.4 now) but will go back to normal after 4 hours of my last bolus.

Pen & syringes on stand by (did a correction via my pen earlier which felt strange)

Oh dear, where do these people learn their bedside manner?!! I do find most cold/flu type viruses leave you feeling worse in the evenings and first thing - do you have a fever? If so, paracetamol to bring down the fever, and hopefully also any associated insulin resistance. It's so unfair that people with type 1 not only can't set aside the diabetes when they're ill, but actually have to work harder than ever at it. Hope you have a good restful night Laura.

Why don't you just put on a temp basal?
As to the pump telling you you have enough insulin on board and you disagree with it why don't you just tell it you going to eat more carbs and bolus for them but not eat them. Problem solved.
I do not understand the workings of the roche pump as never seen it or read the manual but all the pumps I've has all you did was ignore the fact the pump has calculted x amount and bolused more on the correction, the pump doesn't actually stop me doing this.

I've been running a TBR since Sunday just to try & get a grip on it.

I tried the carbs thing but it didn't calculate a bolus for me.

But after being up most of the night my bloods got back to normal & the ketones have gone.

What ever it is, can go away it's halloween & I have children to terrorize

Oh I do it all year round Laura, don't have to make any special effort on just the one day!

I'm very very pleased to hear normal service is being resumed.
