An old recipe often seen online seems to be being promoted as (yet another) new wonder health option.

Jelly(UK) Cottage Cheese with Walnuts and Cucumber.

Makes a mousse like thing.

Anyone tried this?
Other suggestions to add to the mix?

I remember seeing Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall cooking a pan full of Wood Lice in butter and adding them to an Omelette. Apparently they are related to the Prawn/Shrimp family but task mushroomy!! Give them a try and tell us!

I must say if they had a competition for the most unappetising sounding recipe 'Cottage Cheese Sludge' would be a strong contender.

Hear Hear!

I'm a big fan of frittata generally. Most people own a frying pan and you can add what the heck you like to the basic beaten egg mix, depending on what bits (leftover and/or fresh) you happen to have lurking in your fridge. Nice hot or cold. Don't need the skills of Escoffier to create them either!

Yeah, happens on Mondays quite often in our house, with bits of leftover chicken, parsnips and greens from Sunday Lunch.

Yes - I was trying to high light how bad it sounded and the foul internal sensation I got when reading about it.

However - Cottage Cheese and Jelly(UK) is an old idea.

Here is the info I found online and used for my experiment.

Jelly powder (to make 2 pints of regular jelly)
300 g cottage cheese
25g walnuts
1/4 cucumber chopped

Make up the jelly but only use half of the suggested amount of water.
Add all the cottage cheese and use a blender to create the oh so appetising "cottage cheese sludge".
Pour into your mould (I used mini moulds).
As it cools, add remaining ingredients.

Please give it a go and let me know the ingredients you used. It's cheap and quick - nothing really invested.

Are they a different colour inside? Unless the ones round your way wear lipstick and eyeliner, I’d find them too consistently grey. Need something brighter (please don’t suggest multi-colour maggots from a fishing shop). One of the more colourful moths perhaps?

Let me know what you prefer. Please attach photos!

Well, shrimps are grey until you cook them, so maybe woodlice would go a lovely pink colour.

I would totally eat those, they're like shrimps, but you don't have to peel them, which for me, is the big problem with tiny shrimps

According to your link - the belly goes white when cooked. If I were a crude person (none cruder) I'd suggest it's the cooking in steaming hot water for 5 minutes. I.E. You boiled the s**t out of them.

I understand your sentiment fully.
Got an odd feeling that this is going to become popular. Sweet enough for kids - leave out the cucumber and it will suit the salad dodgers.

Perhaps it needs to be sold pre-made with a trendy name whilst a psuedo celeb TV cook (pre or post labotomy) starts a self enriching 'health' campaign.

So - if "Cottage Cheese Sludge" isn't going to win an advertising award - what would?

Given Chris likes the idea of wood lice, how about;
"Sludgy Lice"?
"Lime Lice"?
"Lemon and Lice"?

Come on - there must be someone out there with enough spare time to make up a mix (with or without lice & cucmber) even it is just to confirm LJCs opinion.
