Hi all,

I'm trying to learn about correction doses of insulin.

My bs float around mostly from single figures to 10, 11, 12 & then onto the teens. If it were 20+ or 30+ this would be out of the ordinary.

At what levels would you do a correction? Every time it's over 10 / 12, every time it's in the teens or wait until you have a one off unusual result.

I never do 'correction shots' its too risky & before you know it your on the floor.
I test four times a day morning, lunchtime, dinner time and bed time. I adjust my 'shot' to suit and 99/100 get it right. The last time I did a correction shot I awoke to a bedroom full of paramedic's so beware.

Sorry i should really have said every time it's over.........pre meal & never inbetween meals.

I also test four times a day morning, lunchtime, dinner time and bed time. "I adjust my 'shot' to suit" this would be adding on extra units, so a bit like a correction shot.

i do correction shots but combine them with my eating shots, never correct to below 8 and i use one unit insulin to bring down my sugar by three points but that was a dose worked out with my dsn and i cant remember how we got to that figure so would advise you speak to your dsn about the correction ratio you would need

Ahh see where you are coming from now. I thought you were doing an extra shot 'caus you didnt do enough to begin with. I do my test and calculate, thro experience, just how much to inject. I have never had a 'set' injection as I take stock of whats for dinner and adjust accordingly. The advantage of having an insulin pen is you can be much like ordinary folks when you come to dinner time. The pen is the best piece of kit ever invented as you can act normal.

i calculate per meal too but if i get it wrong which can happen or some other factor comes into play (like stress etc) and i have a high before a meal i will take that into account along with what i am about to eat.....hormones can also have effect on bs i find
