Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Ok, this may already have been covered and apologies if it has, but I am so confused! I am late 50’s type 2, high blood pressure / cholesterol. So last week the government were saying high risk categories including diabetes on that list were to self isolate, now it’s social distancing, sorry I may come across as thick here, but do I go to work or not? Will I get paid ssp if I decide not to go to work because of the risk? Because my shop (non essential items) is still open and expecting me to go in, but if I decide to stay home does that mean I won get paid? I am SO confused?? husband already been sent home to self isolate because he has his own ‘underlying issues’ (I HATE the wording underlying) and he’s annoyed that I am planning to go to work tomorrow, he thinks I’m at risk and bringing risk home to him, but what do you do? BBC news said type 1 diabetics were at risk, everywhere else seems to think there’s not a difference between type 1 & 2, both have the flu and pneumonia jabs, sorry for the length but I honestly don’t have a clue? Can anyone shed any light?

I am sorry you are so confused @Daisychain1

The situation seems to be changing rapidly, and I am currently watching the news for an update.

But there are conflicting messages coming from the Boris Johnson press briefings, vs the .gov website.

I am asking Diabetes UK to seek clarity.

From latest BBC news

Diabetes
Significantly limit face to face meetings, including family

12 week isolation - ‘most vulberable’
those on dialysis, with cystic fibrosis, on chemo, with leukaemia, and transplant/immuno suppressant

So exactly the same as this advice:

For people with diabetes it is still social distancing NOT isolation... but keep your social distancing as complete as possible 🙂

This was also my understanding of the latest news and other briefings.
Keep your distance and keep safe

Thank you so much for your reply, it is just so confusing isn’t it, on one hand the government is telling us to not be in close contact even with friends and family but on the other we should just go to work as normal? I don’t see how working in a shop (non essential) is going to let you avoid being in contact with your customers? Arghhhhhh so confusing! I thought earlier in the week I read that we could self isolate and receive ssp and now I can’t find where I read it? My husband is really worried and said I should take unpaid leave, but we don’t know how long that will be for so can’t really do that, so I’m going to go to work and just see what happens, maybe wear gloves?
