Being type 2 and being under a lot of stress due to where I live, I am struggling to maintain a monitoring schedule.

I bought all the equipment, but just haven't gotten around to trying them out.

One problem is I am a night person, and so never sure when would be the right time to test with a strip, when I do intend to do so.

I eat little but often as I also have IBS and acid reflux, which I am hoping I can control better with regular exercise.

Definitely need those weight, so spending time at my local leisure centre is a good idea. Just hope I don't wear myself out what with my age, 55, lack of physical health and all the medications that I am on. Best to be optimistic, I guess...

Finding recipes that cater for all those conditions is hard, but do realise now that cutting down on carbs is important. Didn't know that before... noticed that quite a number of recipes on here, this website, are heavy in carbs...

I have IBD, GERD, RA, and psoriasis, I have been following GL Diet for a week and so far out is helping with all these issues. The reflux has calmed, for the first time in two years I have not had continuous abdominal pain. It may work for you also

What's the GL diet? Are there any recipe books you recommend. It sounds like it might do my abdominal upsets some good. I'll go look it up online see if I can get some info on it. Thanks for that...

Checked out some info on GL diet and the other links given above. That sounds like just what I need. I realise my diet is heavy on carbs which is why I am feeling tired, unhealthy and not able to lose weight.

Have bought two books from off my Kindle. One about GL diet with recipes and another about beating diabetes. My doctor said that once you have you can't go back. So will test out these books to see. Can't hurt to try...

GL for Dummies is the book recommended to me and is available on Kindle. I found that I could not tolerate some of the high fat stuff hence why GL works better for me.

Just downloaded it. Must put some time aside for reading. This book should give me all the necessary insights I need on this subject. Thanks for that...

Coping for mental health, I am finding this forum is helping s lot.

I had acid reflux when my diabetes was not controlled, it has improved greatly with a low carb diet and mostly normal
Blood glucose levels 🙂

Is it really true you can reverse diabetes, as some books claim? Rid it completely?

You asked when to test. If you want to know what certain foods do to your BG, it would be worth testing before you eat and also two hours after you eat. If you keep a record of what you have eaten you may be able to spot which particular carbs make your BGs spike (go unusually high straight away) and so avoid those or just reduce the amount that you eat.

As grovesy says you can control it and even bring it into the non-diabetic range, so your doctor is not entirely correct. It takes an effort but you have already made a great start and are taking control. A food diary is a brilliant idea as we are all different in the amount of carbs that we can tolerate. For me oats are not good others can eat them. If you persevere you will have the satisfaction of seeing your BGs come down and will feel so much better. I have gone from 85 to 42 and I feel really good. It does take a while and there will be set backs but keep going and you will get there. Good luck and keep up your good work 🙂

It is also a marathon and not a sprint! Also what you can tolerate can also change !That it is not always what you eat , it how much of it you eat!

Hy Lydia. I know of one person on here with t2 whos been able to control their diabetes so well that they've been taken off the diabetes register, this IMO doesn't mean they are no longer diabetic , it's that they have been able to achieve great control over it.
Some others have been able to come off diabetic medication and control their diabetes through diet and exersize.
ATM their is no cure but it can be controlled.
Their is another book that you might find helpful, back in a mo with a link
