A new study in the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital aims to evaluate the impact of positive lifestyle changes throughout pregnancy on mother and child and transform outcomes for obese women at risk of gestational diabetes.

The health service could potentially benefit from a ?lifestyle? dividend worth almost ?4.35 million a year in maternity service savings alone if the study shows that gestational diabetes in obese women can be prevented by participating in a healthy living programme during pregnancy.

UCD research fellow at the Coombe, Dr Niamh Daly, is conducting the study under the supervision of Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prof Michael Turner.
