Hi everyone,

I'm fairly newly diagnosed type 2.
I'll be honest I'm struggling for meals for all the family which are suitable for myself. With the cost of living going up meat is expensive and pasta is cheap.

I'm interested how people with kids get around this? Any family meal ideas greatly appreciated or do you tend to have your own meal plan and the family eats different meals?

You can increase the vegetables you have with your portion of the meal rather than the rice, pasta, potatoes. People use butternut squash, celeriac, swede as potato substitute or cauliflower for rice. I use edamame bean or black bean pasta which is lower carb than normal pasta, it is more expensive but you don't need much and it cooks very quickly 5mins boiling and then just have more sauce.
 
Me and my wife eat the same dishes (Fish/meat and veg + occasionally a daal). She adds extra carbs to hers.
The kids sometimes have the same (If we make a large curry or do a roast chicken.) but generally have something different as they don't like fish.
On one day a week they all have pizza, and I make stir fry prawn dish from a recipe book.
For lunch at weekends we all do our own thing.

I think it depends on the sorts of meals you generally aim for as a family. And how open people are to trying different things.

Some meals are easier to adapt and adjust than others.

Are you aiming for a low-ish carbohydrate approach?
