HI

I have very many cooking apples on trees, some about 6 inches accross -- I am not going to make pies etc, this year. (well maybe one or a dorset apple cake)

Any ideas which will come in the reasonable range of use will be great.
I am assuming that coring them, and filling them with sultanas soaked in Rum is also out! or mince meat -------- except as a one off.

Hi Andrew could you send me your recipe for dorset apple cake please 🙂

Dorset Apple cake is lovely , had to have some when we was on hols in weymouth :D

Dorset Apple Cake

Dorset apple cake

? 8oz caster sugar, plus extra for dredging
? 3 large eggs
? 8oz self-raising flour
? 1lb Bramley apples
? 1 tbsp Demerara sugar
? Options
? Cinnamon, sultanas, almonds, hazel, nuts, for the last 20 years I have kept a jar of sultanas soaking in rum they are a nice extra sometimes.

METHOD
Preheat the oven to 180?C
Grease a deep 8 inch cake tin and line with baking paper.
Peel, core and cut the apples into 1cm pieces, and toss with the lemon juice.
Whisk together the butter, caster sugar and lemon zest in a bowl.
Beat in the eggs, 1 at a time, keeping the mixture smooth.
Drain the apple pieces well, then stir into the mixture. See optional extras add at this time
Spoon into the prepared cake tin, sprinkle with Demerara sugar.
Bake in the oven for 1 hour or until well-risen, test with a skewer
Leave to cool in the tin for 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove the cake from the tin and place on a serving plate.

serve with cream if you fancy it I like the cake on its own

where in somerset

Hi

where in somerset are you? I am at Woolavington.

Perhaps if you have so many, you could share them out to some low income families or OAP's. 🙂
That's what we do around here anyway.

HI

We are doing that as well but we may as well use a good few, any new idea is worth a try.

you may be supprised at the number of people who are not interested in a few free apples,

they think that there is something wrong with them! or have no idea what to do with them!!
