Thanks Bruce ,wish they would stay with one way of testing.
They're different measures for different purposes. I usually want to know what my BG is now (so I can make immediate decisions on what to do), and a test strip gives me that. Sometimes it's useful to know what the average has been and that's what HbA1c gives (presuming it's not being influenced by the various non-BG things that can influence it).

(I agree there's not much value in having multiple units for BG and HbA1c. Those are just annoying. HbA1c of 42 mmol/mol is 6% in the older units, BTW.)
 
I believe the reason for changing the units from % to mmol/mol was because people got confused between HbA1C as % and spot tests from a finger prick even though the units were mmol/l as the actual numbers were very similar.
 
Yup, it’s not really possibly to directly convert one to the other, because one is a spot-check of one moment in time, and the other is the effect of circulating glucose on red blood cells over the past 3-4 months.

But the average fingerstick glucose conversions can give a rough idea. 🙂
