You should be able to but they may cost more than you expect.

Yes you should be able to , though they will be expensive .

I assume you’ve run out of yours
The chemist that handles your prescriptions may be able to supply you with some and take it off the script that you put in for them , so I would have a chat with the pharmacist.

Or is it that you are not being provided with enough for your needs

You shouldn`t have to buy them if you need more tell your Dr or DSN but if you need to you can buy them over the counter.

Can I buy these over the counter from Boots or somewhere like that?
How often do you test in a day? Your GP has to supply you with as many strips as you need in order to manage your diabetes well, so if you are not getting enough then let the GP know. As a base, it's accepted that people on insulin need to test around 8 times a day, quite possibly more. It's also worth asking about a Freestyle Libre system which allows you as many tests as you want, and which you would be entitled to if testing more than 8 times a day. The last time I looked Contour Next strips were about £30 for 50 over the counter 😱

Didn’t think they would be that expensive! I have requested some from my GP anyway and I can just use another Blood sugar meter till they arrive. My Diabetes specialist has put me forward for the free style libre system but says it takes about 2-3 months to get authorised due to cost although for the mean time I am okay using the BG meters. I typically test around 4 times a day as it’s not always that easy especially when I am working.

may I ask how many you get issued per month? Most are allowed up to 200 per month and only testing 4 times per day you wouldn't be using that many, please if you aren't being supplied with enough strips either contact you diabetes team or GP to have them increased xx

Many do not realise they are expensive. The price varies with differnt brands.

I can't remember how many I have been issued, I have been getting enough standard test strips though but I have been testing out different systems to see which one I like best as a newly diagnosed type 1 diabetic. Once I have chosen my best solution I am sure my supply needs will be less. I am still not sure yet!!

Are you in the UK? and been buying your own meters and strips to trial? if so its not as easy as picking which you prefer, different CCG's prescribe different strips and don't have a whole range to pick from so I'd stick to what you know can be prescribed to you in your area xx
