Quite liking this meter and comparison tests against my Expert are very close, I had a look at NICE and the NHS and the cost for Contour Next strips is £1.05 cheaper than the Aviva strips I currently get, if all with the other strips goes well then I'd highly consider asking if I could have my strip prescription swapped over BUT my drawback for this is how slippery I find meters, does anyone know if there is a silicone case available for the Contour Next One at all? xx

I’ve not looked for one @Kaylz, but I’ve been using Contour (now Ascensia) Next and USB meters for years because they linked with my Medtronic pumps.

I have a couple of spare Next One’s now - one in the car and one upstairs. I’fe always been very impressed but the Next XT strips, which are hands-down the most reliably-repeatable / accurate of any strips I’ve used.

Used to be that if i didn’t ‘like‘ a number I could try again and get a different result, but I no longer bother to recheck unless something looks or feels off about it as 9/10 the rechecked result is exactly the same or 0.1 different to the first.

I can’t see amy mention of ‘skins’ or silicon cases on their website either I’m afraid :(

Is there a way you could use ‘blister plasters’ or silicon plasters to give you some ‘grippy’ patches on the meter?

No idea if this would work, or give you what you need

@everydayupsanddowns its a good idea but I'm not keen on adhesives as it will just start to look scabby after a while lol, I've emailed Ascensia this morning to enquire and asked on a Facebook group so fingers crossed someone knows of something! I really wouldn't mind switching to using it full time, I don't use the bolus calculator on the Expert and haven't done for quite some time now and seen as its been discontinued chances are if anything happened to it I'd be switched to something else anyway as I don't see the Aviva meter on the prescribing list in my area xx

I did think it was a long shot.

Hope you find something

Go on, say what your thinking - "Your a fussy sod Kayleigh" LOL, na I just don't like things being sticky or that, while I have you, do you know if its safe to use a spec wipe on the screen of my Expert meter? xx

Oooh! I’ve no idea. My Expert was a bit of a work horse and more likely to get an ‘edge of a T shirt‘ wipe.😱

I would imagine glasses cleaning cloth would be OK (probably more gentle than anything I’d wiped mine with)

I’d avoid solvents etc, and if anything perhaps just breathe on it and wipe with a microfibre type cloth as you suggest?

I was referring to moistoned spec wipes lol, I know if you've to send a meter back they send alcohol wipes to wipe it down but yeah maybe best not to xx

They are stopping expert meters, but will continue with strips for that meter. I have never seen a silicone case for the contour meter, but you can still swab the blood if you use put it in the black carry case it comes with.

Touch screens can be a bit twitchy I think, bit I’d imagine a BG meter would be pretty robust?

I think it was the ‘USB stick’ type contour meter @Kaylz wanted a skin for?

Sorry? I know they are discontinuing the Expert and that the strips will still be available but if I can I'd like to swap to the Contour meter as its more compact and easier to carry and strips are cheaper, I'm not sure which meter your on about a case/cover for now but I have a silicone cover for my Expert meter and was wondering if there was similar available for the Contour and I have absolutely no idea what you mean when you say I can still swab blood if I use the case that comes with it

Well - I think they did the silicon cases for the Expert meter at the same time they did the ones for the Combo pump. They still make the Combo - but haven't done the silicon cases for them for about 5 years at least.

Sorry if I confused you. You should have this case when you got the meter. What I meant by swab you could just keep it in this, and you have room to put blood on the test strip. I know it isn't practical but that is the only thing that I could think of.

Thanks but I prefer to take my meter to my finger rather than trying to apply blood to a strip on something lying on a low unit

Me too.
I looked on a site called Funky Pumper but they don't do them either. I got a case for my libre reader from them.

I t will be a shame if they don't do. I have only every had the horrible cloth cases for any of my meters.

Oh yeah so do I but its more of a skin for the meter, just to give me some grip on it, don't know if its with all the hand washing I do or what but I find meters themselves very slippery, even dropped my insulin pen last week but thankfully its survived xx
