Hello everyone and I hope you are all well and continuing to kick the Diabetes Fairy's butt. 🙂

Sorry I've not been around much of late although I do keep a check on here via my mobile phone. Such a pain posting on there though so I thought I'd give you a quick update whilst I've borrowed my daughters' laptop. Should be able to get my own mended now all the bills have been paid though.

I had my bloods taken last week and an appointment with my Consultant on Monday. Been feeling a bit down recently for one reason or another. As a result I'd got the idea into my head that it was going to be a bad appointment and that I was going to be taken off the Byetta and started on insulin. I think partly because nothing ever seems to work for me for long, plus the Consultant himself told me Byetta's only a stopgap and that most people move on to insulin within a year anyway. Silly really because my readings have been good, but I still had a sense of impending doom. It's the possible weight gain that worries me. I know it's not a certainty but I struggle enough as it is.

Anyway, the appointment was a really good one with results as follows.....

HbA1c..... 6.5. A slight rise from 6.3 but I've cut one of my Gliclazide and I'm not having as many hypos.

Cholesterol.....3.8. a slight reduction although I'm still to take my Statin.

Blood Pressure....124/69. I'm to carry on with my meds there too.

Kidney Function Ratio...8.2 which is fine and a slight improvement.

Proteinuria levels....53 which is the best it's been for 7 years! ( The highest reading I've had in the past is 934!) So no action needed

Liver function fine.

No change in my weight, but I knew that. Going to up my exercise levels and try to improve that before my next appointment in August.

All in all my Consultant was very pleased with my efforts and I'm pretty pleased too. 🙂 XXXXX

Faith, those are terrific results! Well done! 🙂 Glad to hear the appointment went so well and it must have given you a big boost given that you were fearing the worst. That slight rise in HbA1c is nothing really, considering that your levels are much less prone to hypo and you've managed to drop one of the tablets.

And what's this business about Byetta being a stopgap to insulin? What about Steff, who went from Byetta, to Victoza, to no medication?!! 🙂

Oh, and about this notion of 'kicking the Diabetes Fairy's butt' - hopefully not whilst I'm playing the part! 😱 😉

Oh dear! You mean no one's told you? :D :D XXXXXXX

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I told him about Steff, and plugged this place again. Of course. XXXXX

I don't think the HbA1c rise is particularly significant. So, a big well done on everything.

I'd be extremely happy with your numbers!

Andy 🙂

a brilliant set of results 🙂 and I totally agree with the others that the slight rise in HBA1c should definitely not be seen as a bad thing if you've cut the number of hypos you're having...it's a brilliant achievement!

well done you! :D

I didn't realise Steff had given up the Metformin and the statin as well as the other stuff

Well done Faith, fantastic results and like everyone says that tiny increase in the HbA1c is nothing really, in the past five years mine have always varied between 6.3 and 6.6. I hope you maintain the improvements, and good luck with the weight loss effort, I'm sure you'll do it.

Not sure about other stuff but as far as I know she's not on any diabetes meds now. So no Metformin. Her sig says D and E now. She's done brilliantly. XXXXX

Well done Twinnie - those are great results - I have missed seeing your posts on here - thought you'd gone off us all. 😛

Well done Blythespirit. Brilliant results.🙂

If you get that feeling of impending doom next time, you'll know you can either ignore it or take it as a sign of good things to come ! :D

Rob
