Confusing blood sugar readings

I have been diabetic for 25 years. Until recently my fasting blood sugar readings have averaged about 6.5, now they average 8.3 with occasional 9+. Yet my Hba1c test last week was 52. I recently changed to an Aga matrix Jazz system which I calibrated last week and was fine, previously I used Accuchek Aviva.
Any suggestions?

Hello Vivien and welcome to the forum.
It is quite likely that the change in your readings is due to the change in meters. The same thing happened to me a while ago when I swapped meter types. The accuracy of meters can vary, up to around 10% I think. Are you able to re-check readings again with your old meter?

May be worth considering though if you have changed anything else recently e,g dietary changes, change in mount of exercise, medication change, other health issues or extra stress. All of these things and more can influence readings.

May I just enquire why you don't think it's likely that your BGs would change? The HbA1c test presumably was mainly whilst still using the Accu-Chek? Or not?

No both my recent Hba1c tests were carried out after switching to my new Agamatrix meter.

Have you contacted Agamatrix and asked for some control solution to test its accuracy?

I thought the mention of ‘calibration’ in the first post may have been a reference to control solution TW?

Be interested to hear what the results are like on your old meter. Some meters just seem to have a different reaction to some blood chemistries, and veer in one direction or other for some users I think?
