when shopping for food should you be looking at the carbs or the sugar content also what sort of number of carbs should be ok to buy
 
Hi @dingdong it's the total carbs you need to look at. How many you allow yourself depends on how low carb you want to be. If I remember correctly, anything up to 150g carb per day is classed as low carb although many of us tend to stick around the 50g per day mark.
 
The above advice applies to those outside the USA. In the USA they include in-digestible fibre ( which they spell as fiber) in the total carbohydrates - so for packaging there you need to subtract the Fiber from the Total Carbohydrates.

I also slightly disagree as to what constitutes Low Carb. In most studies I have seen this mean 130gms of carbs or less per day.

And me, Ian. Having said that mine's usually less than 100g a day.
