Hi, I'm on a Facebook group but realised they are mostly from America. They all say 150-170 HP1AC (I think) is good. But I was 72 on my last blood test which has already gone down over 20 and obviously want to get it down asap because I was advised needed to be below 40 something. Is it different in America? I also think I will leave the page its confusing me haha!

Hello @Bethxo ,

thank you so much for joining the Diabetes UK community forum. I believe they use different methods. It may be helpful to share your numbers here for people to share their thoughts.

Most of the Facebook diabetes groups I’ve joined are heavily American. They only ever mention American figures and they talk about American products etc. I have to say that other than as a jumping off point for recipes I’ve found them of limited use whereas this forum is much better.

Thank you!

I really want to test all the time because I'm a bit obsessed with it coming down but dont want to buy anything because I know it will be all I do.

The US uses mg/dl for blood glucose measurements (fingerprick tests)

These numbers are 18x our mmol/L equivalents.

So they would probably be aiming for 70 - 150 mg/dl (4-8.5mmol/L)

the HbA1c is measured differently too. The old style was expressed as % (eg 6.5%) but these days international consensus is to use mmol/mol. 6.5% would be 48mmol/mol.

It‘s a bit like feet, inches, and cm, mm.

It can be confusing until you get your head around it!
