Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi I have had Type 1 diabetes for 14 years. My friend recently had blood tests for diabetes. The told her she is a borderline diabetic needing no treatment at the moment. They said her bloods are sitting at 40 surely they don't mean her blood sugar levels as this would be incredibly dangerous and at risk of ketoacidosis does anyone know what they mean. Grateful for replies

They probably mean her Hba1c is 40 which is 5.8 so not yet requiring treatment. It's not 40 on the meter as this would be a medical emergency.

Different measurement. Regards, Amigo

Hi Welcome. Your friend telling you they had a BG level of 40 must have been a dreadful shock.
They are just below the pre diabetes level, which starts at at 42 Hb1ac
