Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I haven't even been properly diagnosed yet, but have already been sent an appointment for a retinal examination, a referral to the diabetic clinic at the hospital, and an appointment with the diabetic nurse at my doctors surgery (which is where I thought I would start). They obviously believe I am diabetic but I'd like to talk it through with somebody first before they take over my life - lol! I appreciate it, but somebody talk to me........

WOW there on the ball bunny i had to wait an age for the 2 latter ones , but i must admit i had my appointment for the retinal screening within 3 weeks of diagnosis.I think there pushing it abit if they have sent all that already and you have not yet been diagnosed, do they know something you dont or what 🙄

hi bunny welcome to the forum....im a T2 have been diagnosed 18 months ..im not sure why you havent been properly diagnosed? what have they said to you ...did you have a blood test?

Hey, another Yorkie! We're starting to flood the place! :D

Trust me, the York Hospital clinic are AWESOME. They've been so great with me. Which GP's are you with? I'm with Jorvik, and on the whole they're pretty good, if you dodge the wrath of the receptionists! 😉 They've also got two GP's with a special interest in diabetes (one is actually an aquaintence of mine - he's my boss' brother-in-law)

It's good to see you on here, you're in the right place 🙂

Hey there, just wanted too say dont worry too much, they (and diabetes) wont take over ur life. It may seem that way to start off with but u will be glad they are only a phone call away when u need support or advice about anything 🙂 I found that the good thing about a diabetes clinic is the fact that they know what they are doing (in my experience anyway) and they welcome you to drop in if you are ever worried about anything, even if it seems trivial 😉 x

Hi Bunny, welcome to the forum.

Hi, Welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome to the forum. Things are moving fast for you, I hope everything goes well for you.

Is there anything in particular you'd like to know? If you go tot he general message board and look through, you will find lots of comments and questions that may help.

Please feel free to ask. Everything is important and there is sure to be someone who has already dealt with whatever you are asking.

I'm with Priory in Fulford. They're pretty good too, I'm just a bit overwhelmed by not even having had a chance to talk to anyone in any great detail (ie: be diagnosed), and yet having been given an eye appointment already. I'm sure all will be revealed in time - appt at hosp on 25 Feb. Ill let you know how it goes or if I get any more appts for anything else before then!!! Good to hear from another Yorkie.

Thanks for the advice. My mum is T1 since age 10, and is being very supportive. I'm not too worried, just a bit overwhelmed by it all.........

Welcome to the forum! I know what you mean about being overwhelmed and things moving very fast.. I had been chasing by blood test results for a week and then received a phone call from the doctor telling me I was suffering from 'mild' diabetes on the Friday and a letter through the post on the Saturday inviting me for a retinopathy screening!! In a way, I kinda found it comforting that they were making sure that I got the necessary tests asap to ensure I wasn't dealing with complications..

It can be a bit ovewhelming at first. I'm glad you have your mum for support. It is possible that since your mum is type 1 they will keep a closer eye on you, and this is why things seem to be moving so fast.

It's possible you might get invited to the newly diagnosed course thing that will be going on at the hospital shortly. My DSN keeps going on about it, it's due to start in the next month or so.

Do feel free to PM me if you need anythind 🙂

That's understandable, it's an overwhelming thing sometimes! DOn't be scared to ask your doctors questions. If there's something you need to know that they aren't saying, e.g. 'do you know whether I have diabetes or not? WHen are you going to find out? How? Why am I having this scan?' it's ok to ask.
