Hello Michael, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, unfortunately there's a lot of it about!

Have you been given any medication yet? Depending on blood glucose levels, they usually start with diet and exercise and introduce metformin and/or other drugs if that's not enough to bring sugar levels down. Of course exercise may be a problem for you, but have you been given any dietary advice yet?

Welcome to the forum Michael_b 🙂

The metformin is to reduce your insulin resistance, so that you body uses what your pancreas is still producing more effectively. It can have some unpleasant gut related side-effects that usually get a bit more tolerable after the first few weeks. If they don't, your doctor can prescribe a slow-release version.

Do you have a blood glucose meter and test strips? Try to get them prescribed if you can so that you can find out what effect particular foods have on your levels. We're all different, and some can eat things that cause high levels in others.

It all comes down to carbohydrates. Many people find that both reducing the total carbs consumed, and swapping wholegrains for processed white products beneficial.
