Been referred to diabetes specialist as my blood glucose levels keep dropping below 4
I was told I can't have hypos as I'm diet and exercise controlled, I kept telling them I do but now being sent to specialist as my doctor is confused.
My HBA1c came back at 5.5 but liver was high. Does anyone else with type2 diet/exercise have same problem with low levels.
I am just as confused as I went off the rails last few months and was eating what I don't normally eat, cakes ect and my results are pretty good.

Might it be reactive hypoglycaemia? This happens when there is an overenthusiastic response from the pancreas to glucose/carb intake. Or, what are you lows? A non-diabetic can be down to 3.3 before being considered hypo - we are generally told 4 as this gives a margin for error 🙂

I'm talking 2.9 northerner

I get symptoms of hypo and odd panic attack but for no reason, I can be 7.6 on leaving home to do a 20min walk to work and my levels can drop so quick, hoping I can get something sorted very soon.

Hi - yes I totally understand where you are coming from.
I kept having hypos and really had to fight for someone to believe me.
I was only believed when my GP happened to be at my local club and I suffered a very bad hypo that an ambulance was called for.

After spending a week in hospital for lots of tests, it was found that I produce many many many times (I think it was 20 but can't remember) more insulin than I should, but my body doesn't use it properly and then it does and I crash.

Do you find you also put a considerable amount on quickly - say in a day or two? This is another symptom of this that i have.

I was started on Byetta in June, which seemed to help though I dont understand why - and have now started on Victoza and so far so good.

Was very naughty just before starting Victoza and stopped taking my meds and then had hypos on a daily basis - without doing any exercise.

So yes it does happen, the NHS will tell you it can't and I also have to pay privately for my victoza as my hba1c is below 7 - ridiculous and very very frustrating - but now feel I am getting somewhere.

I wonder if the NHS would test your insulin production to see if it is high?
