Hi All

Hope someone can offer some advice. Had this text message from my medical center with latest results of my HbA1c. I’m confused based on the information I have as to whether this is good news and I am controlling it exceptionally well or I’m having too many hypos.

Also, a lot of this hypos were false confirmed by a finger prick test and the rest were incredibly brief.

Also, only 7 in last 30 days, 1 in last 14 days and 0 in last 7 days.

Also, I had a faulty sensor in November that was was giving me low (hypo) readings for about a week randomly which were not correct. Eventually I swapped the sensor.

I look forward to your thoughts.

I tend to ignore any hypos that aren’t accompanied by symptoms, because I know I have good hypo awareness, and boy, do I know it when I’m having a genuine hypo.
It sounds like most of your 35 'hypos' were during the period you had the faulty sensor.
My Libre always predicts an HbAic lower than I actually get, so I feel this bears out what I'm feeling about the Libre giving me lows that aren’t actually lows.(my recent HbA1c was 47, and my Libre was predicting 44)
So I’d be minded to put your excellent HbA1c down to good management, not excess hypos.

There’s a write-up of the International Expert Consensus on Time in Range here, which you might find helpful

Essentially, aiming for 70+% time between 4-10 is great, as long as you keep the number of hypos (and the total time spent sub 4.0) down as low as possible.

You seem to be hitting the recommendations, which is great! So allow yourself a little encouragement. But reducing the number of dips below 4 still further would still be worth doing. It can be very frustrating to get false hypos in your results though!

Even 1% below 4 when it comes to hypos could be about 15 minutes a day. And I would certainly be uncomfortable having a hypo every single day!

Well done on your low A1c, but allow yourself a little slack perhaps?

Amount of hypos is red flag to medical profession,so think in your position I would be explaining that you checked those libre lows with bg test & found them to be inaccurate.
