Relationship to Diabetes
I have had untold amounts of diabetes tests over the last decade. The results always come back negative, which is good in a way. However, I have blood sugar drops on a fairly regular basis, sometimes to the point of almost passing out. This is why I am confused. I have noticed that if I have breakfast by lunchtime I can almost certainly guarantee some level of sugar drop, sometimes mild, sometimes quite bad. If I don't have breakfast though I can go all day without incident.

I can't get an answer from the GP, so thought I throw it out to this forum to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Jason

Sounds like it could be reactive hypoglycaemia.
Do you know what levels you are dropping down to?

Hello Jason, a warm welcome to our supportive forum. I'm not sure I can help you but others will come by shortly to have a chat with you. Take care x

My levels have dropped down to 2 before. Although regularly between 2.5 & 3.5. Is there anything I can do to avoid it. As I'm sure many of you know, it feels bloody horrible and can leave me feeling rubbish for most of the rest of the day. Not good when I'm trying to work.

I am not an expert by any means but I have heard that a low carb diet can be beneficial.
Has your GP considered this condition in your case?
I would seek medical advice and mention this to them.

As suggested, it may be reactive hypoglycaemia. This happens when your pancreas over-reacts to the carbohydrate in your meals and releases an excess of insulin in response. As a result, after the food has digested you still have 'circulating insulin' which continues to cause your levels to fall. Normally, when your levels return to normal, the insulin is 'switched off', but this isn't happening in reactive hypoglycaemia. It may be worth trying some low or no-carb meals - bacon eggs and mushrooms, for example - and seeing what happens 🙂
