Hi all,

I'm going to see Rod Stewart at Durham cricket ground next week - however, the 'rules' state that 'No food or drink may be taken in, bag searches will be in operation', but being Type 1, I like to have say, a sandwich, sweet drink with me, as doors open at 5pm and it isn't expected to finish before 11pm. Usual 'catering stands' will be there, but I can't exactly rush out and wait in a queue if I go hypo!

Wondered if things like this are covered by the DDA, does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

I'd check with the venue/where you got the tickets from but if you tell the stewards/security staff when you go in you're Type 1 they should let you take in food and drink. (Just show them your pump as proof :D). Many years ago my brother had a part time job working as a steward at concert venues and they were told to allow Type 1's in with their own food and drink. This worked when I went to see U2 at Roundhay Park in the early 90's with my brother and his girlfriend of the time. It was more an excuse for him and his girlfriend to take in their own cheap food from the supermarket than anything to do with me and my T1. 🙄 Enjoy the concert. 🙂

I've always been allowed to keep stuff on me in case of hypo. Never tried a sandwich as usually it's quite sweet stuff I keep on me but it's never been a problem

I had this problem,
My girlfriend emailed the venue to let them know the situation and I took my gp letter stating my condition for travel and they were fine with it all, even that was probably excessive but if you are worried about it, that should work 🙂

I went to see Adam Ant a couple of weeks ago. I had complete diabetic kit, with extra cannulas insulin pens etc, and a small tin of full fat coke. Oh I nearly forgot jelly babies. I had no trouble with security, at all. I also always wear a silicone wrist stray stating type 1 diabetes. Have a really great time.

Yes, I'd contact the venue beforehand to let them know that you will need to take food & drink onto the premises and exaplain why. This can be the sort of thing that is covered under the Equality Act 2010, so they should allow you take food in, but it can be seen as a 'reasonable' request for the venue to ask for confirmation or notice before the day, depending on their policies etc. If you'd like more information, the Diabetes UK Advocacy Team can give you more advice about the legislation around this, but propbably contacting the venue initially is the best option. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the show.

Symphony Hall. Birmingham
Takes me back, last time I was there was to see BB King (early 90's if I remember correctly) 2nd row seats🙂

Just to drag the tone down,

Last band I went to see is Black Sabbath, before that Roger Waters ( at Wembley) before that The Enemy/The Twang.

Due next Pigeon Detectives, nothing beats a gig, it is a pleasure to see how the younger generation enjoy such things.

Hmmm, last band I saw was Fleetwood Mac in San Diego, fantastic!!!
