Concerns attending hospital

I’ve got an appointment on the 29th and I’m feeling ok about it. The hospitals are doing everything they can to keep us safe I’d rather go in and get seen at an appointment than go into a&e, though apparently that’s also very quiet.
When I went to A&E with my daughter where she got her type 1 diagnosis we arrived at 11.30 on a Friday night. Normally would be hugely busy, pub kick out time
There was one other person! Began to wonder if I had gone to the wrong place!

Most of Alice's new diagnosis appointments have been virtual, including her first clinic with the consultant. They have used her libre data to see how she is doing / estimate her HBa1c and we have measured and weighed her. I went in on the Monday after we got her home on Sunday night as we were only given her two insulin pens and about ten needles. Not even a bs meter! I went and spoke to one of the DSNs for about half an hour and got more kit, intro letters etc. We have then both been in for a pyschologist appointment, bad we tried over the phone and was not successful. I'm not sure 16 year olds are capable of phone conversations anymore! They also went through injection technique so we could make sure we were doing it right. Everyone was properly kitted up and they have only one appointment in the clinic at any one time

Ditto - if your liver needs scanning, for heaven's sake go and have it scanned. None of the hospital staff or the other patients want to catch anything off you either! The radiographers will not be anywhere near you, they never are AND there will be VERY strict social distancing throughout the hospital.

I think there are many people with cancer who had their treatment cancelled by the hospital because it lowers their immunity to infections, but who given the choice would have preferred to carry on with the treatment. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. :(

I‘m in the midst of cancer treatment Sally and my monthly intravenous infusions to boost my immune system have been cancelled indefinitely during this ‘crisis’. It’s a major issue to have a more severely depleted immune system at a time when it’s most needed and I’ve had no blood tests to see how my system is managing.

I had physio cancelled and told referrals to any other specialisms are on hold.

There’s been predictions that deaths from cancer in particular will exceed those of Covid but sadly, they won’t be quantified in the same way even though it’s now being discussed and concern expressed.

Having said that, my treating hospital has been a Covid hotpot so I haven’t been keen to visit but Covid areas should have been set up including mobile units and the use of private hospitals which offered.

partner was taken to a+e Saturday evening, devoid of people and that was a Saturday night. took to the wards again bays devoid of people.

i am expected to attend hospital in around 4 to 6 weeks but luckily there are no wards and it is only used for stuff like opticians, audio and OP so won't be too bothered by that. the other local hospital where they wanted me to go is the one where there have been a lot of covid deaths and would not be keen to go, seems like others in the area are of the same feelings.

Further to my reply on the 13th June- I had to have a scan last week & my experience this time was totally different. The rules have changed so everyone was wearing masks -staff & visitors. The scanning department had lots of sanitiser & staff were very careful. It was all very positive.

One of my August hosp appts has been cancelled.

One of my August hosp appts has been cancelled.

I had a letter for my diabetes appointment at one hospital a few weeks back and have also just received a second letter moving it to a telephone appointment.

My ophthalmologist appointment next month is still going ahead as far as I know, this is at another hospital/trust.
