Hi everyone! My friend, probably my future boyfriend, is going to move to the UK and he has diabetes 2 type. As he is from the other country he has lots of questions and I would definitely like to help him, the problem is that I don't know where to start. There are plenty of questions, so I'll write down just some of them and if in case someone will be so kind and will help us I'll than ask everything we are interested in.

Firstly, where to get the insulin? Is it true, that he can go to the nearest medical centre, show the evidence and get the insulin or the procedure differs?

Secondly, where to get some disability ID because his ID is in other language now and I don't think it will "work" here.

Finally, are there any restrictions on working hours?

Thank you very much for everyone who will be able to answer any of these questions. I will be very happy if I find some help here.
Cheers.

Hi sunny. Welcome 🙂

When you say "the other country", where is that ?

Your friend will need to register with a doctor before he can obtain any meds and will need to bring with him some medical records I would imagine.

He will need to ask the doctor about his disability.

Hello Sunny and welcome to the forum.

Access to healthcare will be dependent on his Nationality. If he is from the EU he needs to bring an EHIC card to show eligibility. If he is not then he will probably have to rely on insurance.

Similarly with working it will depend where he is from as Nationals from some countries need a Visa/ Work Permit to work here.

The best thing he can do is to get in touch with his nearest British Embassy or consulate and see if they can give him the answers to the questions you are interested in.

thank you very much for the answers. he's coming from Latvia, so it is EU country. Thanks for the idea to go to the embassy. He doesn't have EHIC, so I'll advice him to get it.

I hope he's able to get himself sorted and that you get your wish for him to be more than just a friend ! 😉🙂
