Relationship to Diabetes

I was diagnosed as T2 10 years ago and I regularly haunted this forum and going to meets in different parts of the country. Life changes and I just slowly stopped coming on here.

Moved to a different part of the country just over 12 months ago and have been seeing a practice nurse who specialises in diabetes. Her question on our first meeting was "why are you diabetic?". I didn't know what to say so just said to look back at my test results from 10 years ago. I was on Metformin for 2 years but have been off it now for 8 years. Some weight has gone back on and I do eat biscuits every now and then. Had a call as she wants to take bloods and said she would like me to come off the diabetes register.

What does this mean? Apart from the obvious, there is a register I am currently on, but does that mean no more HbA1C tests, no retinopathy, cheaper insurance?

What? Is it a good thing? This is a bit like 10 years ago - what, what, what?

Hello @MargB2

Welcome back!

Well yes, I suppose it would mean no more annual checkups and retinal screening, and no longer being 'labelled' (for want of a better word) as a person with diabetes.

You'd be cured!

Or... you'd be in remission but with no one ever checking on you, and no monitoring to see how things were going in the future.

Depending on how you look at it! 😎

Congratulations on your great results in any case - and lovely to see you again 🙂
