17.47. 3.9. Had 5 dextrose tabs
18.04. 3.3. Another 5 tabs
18.19. 3.1. Another 5 tabs
18.34. 3.2. Another 5 tabs....

I'm getting impatient now. Especially as I actually don't feel hypo

Me think i may be in for a BG spike later.....

Goodness me! Did you drink a bucket of insulin or something? 😱 Hope they start behaving soon!

Hi Sacol4940,

Hot weather maybe? Might be best to set a lower TBR for a couple of hours after so many hypo's - you must feel exhausted!😱🙂Bev

iirc 5 tablets is 15g of carbs, so you had a total of 60g of fast acting carbs to have it not raise your BG levels. Did you seriously miscalculate your insulin dose or something?

I would have thought you should be feeling very hypo as your levels would have been dropping fast for you to have that many carbs for it not to raise them.

Do you normally have good hypo awareness? As I'd be a bit concerned if what you described happened to me and I didn't feel hypo.

Oh dear, I hope they go up soon!

Have you tried any gluco juice or lucozade?

Just wonder if liquid glucose would help improve them?

Just tested again and it's still only 3.4.... 😡

I have full hypo awareness, that's never been an issue for me. The problem I'm having lately is that I'm feeling hypo when infact my blood sugars are at normal levels.

It's very strange.....never had this happen before

I wouldn't say it's the "heat" as I've been inside all day

And I can't see how I've given myself too much insulin as I use the bonus calculator on my pump

I haven't got any full fat pop of any kind, it makes me feel sick, so I tend to stick to dextrose tabs or sugar straight from the sugar pot.... I used to have glucotabs but they didn't work as well as the dextrose ones

Hi Sacol- are you sure your meter is working properly??

Hi Sacol- are you sure your meter is working properly??

It's only a couple of weeks old...had it brand new with my pump on the 18th April

But then I have just done my blood and its shot up to 13.8

How did the rest of your evening go ? I hope your sugars managed to behave and that everything was ok 🙂

Tested again before tea @ 8.40pm and it had risen to 14.2, so I had my tea and corrected

Fell asleep on the settee, woke up at 3.20am lol and my blood was 9.8

Before breakfast this morning it was 8 and 2hrs after breakfast I'm back to 6.7 🙂

Havent got a clue why that happened last night

OK so it was not too bad, glad to hear that - I thought maybe you'd ended up in the high teens or something 🙂
PS : falling asleep on the settee ?1? - never understood how people can do that 🙂, I can only fall asleep in my bed 🙂

I do it most nights - never plan to, but I always seem to 😱

Me too! I stay up to check my son's BG levels, then frequently find myself slumped on the sofa at 1, 2 or 3am, with all lights and TV blazing away, and the streetlights outside all off! Not good.

haha must be a skill you both possess which I clearly lack !!!
I need to peace and quiet and comfort to sleep ....none of the sofa and lights on business for me....😱

I've had this happen - last time it was just before I needed to go out to a funeral. I just had no alternative but to keep topping up with Jelly babies but it wouldn't respond and was very worrying and frustrating. With the combination of upset and jelly babies it later went up to 20! I was not impressed.

Glad it's come back up again, I panic when my hypos don't correct after 15mins so must be a bit scary when it takes so long!

Hope your levels have gone back to behaving now! I was 2.1 early afternoon on way home so stopped at a cafe and I've been 18+ ever since despite me doing 3x as much insulin as normal for dinner... it must know my hba1c is a week today 😉

xx

This used to happen to me, usually when I had stayed late at work and was about to drive home. I've sat in the car for an hour on more than one occasion waiting for my levels to go up. I learned a long time ago that 15 minutes is not long enough to wait before testing and that I need to wait 20 minutes to get the full effect of my hypo fix - but then sometimes hypos have been very stubborn, like yours, for no apparent reason. This was when I was on MDI and I put it down to the odd unpredictability of Lantus. I haven't experienced those since being on the pump.

Mind you I do find that different sites have very different properties. For example upper stomach, especially round the sides, are a lot less absorbent than the middle below the waist. I think of the less absorbent areas as the problem areas whereas if I'd set my ratios using those, I suppose the more absorbent areas could cause the hypos like the one you experienced.
