reading has got me thinking, where seems to be alot of combinations of insulin, mum has humalog and lantus, nephew has novorapid and lantus I have novorapid and levimer. does anyone have any thoughts on combinations they have been given? or have changed for the better? or is it just a case of what the drs hand falls on first in the DDA cupboard?

I've only ever been on lantus and novorapid. I think some insulins have different profiles - so some are quicker than others, so me last longer etc. It's good to have a choice I think - many people seem to change from lantus to levemir as the levemir is easier to split into two injections and more predictable for short-term dose adjustments i.e. you tend to see the effect straight away rather than two to three days with lantus. I#m sure different doctors/DSNs have different preferences, and (dare I say it?) some of them may be influenced by the sales pitch of the drug companies! 😱 😉

As already pointed out its good to have choices. When I was in hospital they had me on Novorapid and Insulatard, but on discharge they changed the Insulatard for Levimer. I found I got better results with Insulatard so asked to go back on it, it was changed with no problem.
