So my last hba1 result beginning March was 38 my fasting bloods this morning are a bit high 5.9 - I’m choked with cold and feeling absolutely rotten feel a bit more flu like than cold but think it’s just a nasty cold (covid tested for the last 3 days and negative) so my question is me being unwell will that/could that affect my numbers x

Hi Sarah. Sorry to hear you have a cold.
Yes, generally being unwell will push your BG levels up a bit. The idea I believe is that the liver pumps out a bit more glucose to help your body fight the infection, so it is all part of the body's mechanism to make you better. A reading of 5.9 is absolutely nothing to be concerned about though.
Hope you feel better soon.

5.9 is a perfectly fine and in range reading to be waking to so it's nothing to be concerned about

Everyone reacts differently so yes it could effect your levels but a lot see much higher than that during illness xx
