Both best avoided.

I never want to drink a coke. I lust after pure orange juice. The reason I don't have it all the time or at all is I know some peoples on here use it to take the bg back up if they're having a hypo so I think to myself I simply cannot drink it so I don't. I lust after oj as much as I lust after chips! Wonder why?

I drank orange juice every day for about 15 years pre-diagnosis. Got diagnosed and had to go cold turkey :( now as you say, just use it to treat hypos, and often it’s just a few sips of the small lunchbox carton concentrated stuff. Not as good as the good not from concentrate stuff for sure - I feel your pain here!

Orange Juice is basically a coke.
No orange juice contains more than just sugar ... and no caffeine.
If only looking at the sugar content it is best avoided if you have an intolerance to sugar. However, it is a great hypo treatment for those using insulin and, for those without insulin resistance, is a pleasant occasional drink. Especially unsweetened freshly squeezed lemon juice with bits in. Yum!

I used to drink rivers of fresh-squeezed orange juice but these days I've accepted the argument that you lose a lot of nutrients & of course a bunch of fibre by not eating the whole fruit.

I still squeeze fresh lemon juice on just about everything, however. Although many don't realise it, the fundamental purpose of food is to provide something to put fresh lemon juice on.

Orange juice is the only hypo-fix that works quickly for me - JBs, Lift tablets, etc. take f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Shame really, cos it means I have to cart around a handbag full of heavy juice boxes, eek! I don't think I could stomach a Coke, it's been such a loooong time since I had one. o_O

I wouldn't have coke as a hypo treatment because I can't drink fizzy drinks fast, so I prefer juice. Freshly squeezed orange juice is lovely and brings childhood memories, but I know is best to avoid it. And boxed orange juice tastes so awkward to me, growing up with the fresh one, that I don't want it even for hypos. I go for apple juice instead.

Luckily dextrose and jelly babies work fine for me so I carry those in my bag (more convenient) and I use juice at home or work.

Coke or orange juice great for treating hypos, but get what others mean about coke being to fizzy when first opened.

This last week been having small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with breakfast, full works that included continental & hot breakkie, meaning full fry up.

I do really enjoy a fresh orange juice when I have the opportunity.

Both good as hypo treatments.
