I panicked last night. Thought I had taken a double dose of metformin. Thankfully I count my tablets before in the morning and realised that I hadn't I definitely will stick to counting tablets in the morning prior to taking them.

Close shave big time.....

😱 Close shave indeed!

This is one reason I like the fact that most of my meds (and there are a lot of them) come in calendar packs. 😱 Though it annoys me if I've been in hospital, and find afterwards that the dispensing nurses haven't followed the calendar; they have elaborate records and checks so they can't make a mistake, but I think they forget that the patient self-dispensing at home doesn't have any of that. 🙄

Get yourself a pill organiser, mine has four sections per day, of which I only use 2 morning and evening, so no chance of an error.

get yourself one of the packs Im lucky mine are all done for me

Can I ask a silly question - what would happen if you had double dosed?
I can see how it would be easily done - and wouldn't know what it would mean if I did it?🙂

Phew! Thats made me feel less silly stacey - thanks🙂

If your "double dose" was well over the maximum dose of Metformin that is recommended then you would need to seek professional help, NHS Direct, out of hours G.P. to question the possible symptoms you may be experiencing.

when i was pregnant i was on metformin and for a week i was on double the dose i should have been on the hospital put the wrong tablets in the box all i was told is least we know more metformin doesnt work for you. i kept being sick while taking them.

It depends on what your regular dose is, if you're only taking one 500mg tablet, taking one extra will probably only give you the runs and nausea (if that's what happens to you, i've never had nausea myself from metformin, but my grandma does, however if you usually take two and take another two i'd recommend giving NHS direct a ring, i don't think i've ever seen anyone prescribed more than 1g twice to three times daily, so i'm not sure what taking 2g at once would do to you, although in my case i think i'd be stuck in the bathroom all day!

Hi Rustee2011

I have never taken a double dose of metformin, like a few others have mentioned I have a pill box so I can see if I have taken a particular dose.

I wouldn't feel too bad. I have doubled up on insulin once. I usually have 4 injections a day. One night I was going out to the supermarket and took my 24 hour insulin.

When I got home, I took it again. It wasn't long in letting me know. When I started taking insulin 2 years ago I set up an emergency procedure for hypos. I have never done it a second time 🙂

Hope your okay.

Regards

Andy

Mum double dosed once on metformin and then had a mini stroke within 2 hrs.

I must point out that we cannot 100 % say the double dose caused it, it could have just been coincident.

I have a weekly pill Box and still manage to forget to take my pills now and again. But without it i would be lost
