Hello,

It's been a while since I have posted on here but I've been all over the place the last few days, what with being ill and going back to work on Monday. Yesterday afternoon it was my clinic appointment with my DSN and doctor, I firstly went to see my DSN who could see I wasn't happy in myself since she last saw me, so she went through with me what had been happening and how I was getting on with my carb counting so I was honest with her and said I had been doing all of the carb counting correctly but my blood levels were still sky high and I had been admitted to hospital last week and now I have a UTI which isn't good, she did then explain that the UTI could have been lurking in my body for quite some time which can make me ill. So anyways she booked me in to see the Dietitician so I went back downstairs and waited until the Doctor then called my name. My doctor wasn't too happy as my HbA1c is 9.1% so I then explained to her exactly what I had said to the DSN and she then said she would write a letter for me to see the pump specialist and dietitician (scary stuff) so I am now waiting to hear from them. The dietitician then called my name and I saw her for about half an hour talking about the ins and outs of carb counting (which really did help) she also gave me a fantastic book which I think is really helpful because it has pictures of the porition sizes as well this books is called "Carbs and Cals by Chris Cheyette" it's a good buy. Now I am just waiting for the antibiotics to work so my UTI goes and I can start the carb counting again properly to see how that goes and if it doesn't go well the pump is a option that I would have to take.

Hi Shell, it sounds like you had a very productive appointment and that things are moving in the right direction 🙂 I'm sure that your HbA1c will reduce once you get to grips with the carb counting. The book you mention has had a lot of good feedback from other members here! Hope the UTI clears up soon 🙂

Hi Shell Carb counting really can make a big difference and after a bit of practice it is quite easy, mainly thanks to carbohydrates being written on so many packets nowadays (when I was a younster we didn't have that "luxury"). I've found a good pair of electronic scales to be really helpful as well. I hope that everything gets much better for you very soon

Yeah I must admit I'm feeling positive about the carb counting now so fingers crossed 🙂 However this morning I had a hypo at work so I know I did too much insulin for breakfast, can't win lol!

Hi

I hope the antibiotics help and clear the UTI.

Just wanted to say that Chris Cheyette was my old dietician he always had brilliant advice I remember him talking about the book he was preparing I might look into buying it.
