Clinic went ok yesterday. Started with consultant saying that my control is excellent but I managed to get him to look at my readings and finally agree that actually control is pretty bad, resulting in an ok HbA1c. He thinks the Levemir is not working for me so has switched it to Lantus which I start on this evening. He also thinks my basal may be a problem but I have to check this to confirm.

He also said that my TSH level is 0.6 so have to repeat test in 4 months and if the same, reduce my thyroxine.

He doesn't think I qualify for funding for a pump at the moment as I don't meet the criteria and he thinks we can straighten control out on MDI. This does depend on what happens with the gastroparesis though.

Back to clinic in 6 months.

Sounds positive Newbs. Were you taking Lev as a split dose?

Hope Lantus suits you.

And he didn't say you'd never get a pump. Sounds pretty positive...

Thanks. No, didn't split Lev, just one dose at night.

...which is pretty well known for not lasting 24 hours... (12-18 is more likely I believe)

I wonder why they suggested Lantus rather than 2x Lev around 12h apart?

Ah well... hope Lantus suits you better! And if you don't get on with it, or find it stings a lot (due to its acidity) you could always go back to Lev but go for 2 doses 🙂

It seems strange to put you on Levemir and not split it, it doesn't last 24 hours..........that fact seems simple enough......

Good luck on the Lantus......😉

When he said he thought my basal was the problem, I said I had been thinking about splitting the dose but he said he would rather I changed to Lantus and tried that first. Not sure why and didn't ask tbh. Like you say, I can always switch back and split - thanks for the stinging warning 😱

I'm also mega stega surprised you weren't on 2x. I know T2's sometimes get away with one, but IMHO that's 99.9% likely because they have sufficient exogenous (is that the right word?) insulin production to cover the gap.

If you are newly diagnosed and in honeymoon then I spose it might also work for a while.

Some of em have got a 'thing' about Lantus being better. Can tell they aren't diabetic and don't have to have the ruddy stuff. Mutter mutter mutter ...

Still - not everyone gets the stinging - hope you are one of them!

Thanks trophywench! He doesn't have a clue really as far as I can see, totally contradicted what he said at the last clinic to me and finished the appointment with "well, I'm glad we have a plan"! Hmmm. Time will tell how good that plan is I guess.
