My fault entirely. ,

Every week Waitrose has given me a free bun on my app. Obviously I have taken advantage of this. The cinnamon bun is my favoutite. But my goodness it is so stodgy. Yesterday I decided to eat half and then test my BH. Half of this bun took me to 7.4, glad I wasn't able to test when I had eaten an entire one. The other half I gave away. Thank heavans no more free buns.

It's always the yummy (often high fat, high sugar) things they (big companies, not just Waitrose) give away! How long after eating did you test? If after 2 hours, that's within the ideal range. :thankyou:

It was after the 2 hour mark, I was really more curious to see my bg.
It was a super yummy bun.

The odd thing about this is, prior to the diagnosis correct or incorrect , I didn't really like any cakes!! Now I have a rule if a cake is free I will take advantage of the offer .

Well who doesn't like free cake - or anything free for that matter? I'm glad you enjoyed half of the bun - no harm done in having that half!

I wonder if it's a deep-routed thought/belief/misconception that 'diabetes=no cake' and so since diagnosis you're (literally) testing that to prove the point that you CAN!

Not quite a cinnamon bun, but knew of these and thought of you: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/living-with-diabetes/eating/recipes/apple-and-raisin-chelsea-buns

Who knows the thinking behind my rules. I tend not to dig too deep. Free stuff doesn't appear that often. That yummy 1/2 cake returned a bg higher than an entire meal.

Ooh, apple and raisin chelsea bun. Recipe means I will need to bake it... no thanks.

I got one at Lidl the other day and gave it to my other half. Wouldn't care but Belgian buns are one of my pre-diagnosis favourites. Apparently it was very good, so I gained Brownie points with my freebie even if I didn't get to enjoy it myself.

Far more generous than I am. I stick to the 1/2 piece rule. Did the OH really
need to tell you it was very good? 🙄

I needed to know, as much as anything, so that if he didn't enjoy it, I would select something different as my freebie bakery item next time. so I asked. And actually it was quite comforting to know that it was really good once it had been consumed. At least I wasn't there to watch him eat it as that might have been a bit challenging and I might have succumbed to a bit or two.
