So my first Christmas as a diabetic - I will be having toasted waffles for breakfast then lunch around 2 some finger food at about 5 but we used to have a turkey sandwich or some leftovers at around 8 can I still do this x

I would assume that if you bolus for it then should be fine, just try & stick to low GI food

It's my first Christmas too. It's difficult to know what to do really isn't it? Trial and error... 🙂

Don't follow my advice, but I've decided I'm not counting carbs on Christmas day. I am going to enjoy it & not test my BG either. I am lucky to be in a position that if I overdo the carbs, my BG soon comes back down. I won't make a habit of it as I've put in a lot of hard work over the past year to get my HbA1c down to 35.🙂

Not following your advice mark but I'm doing same.having a few days off diet wise but will try to keep everything in moderation.Going to make time for a bit of extra excercise each day.

going to let my hair down tomorrow.
I am carb counting but only so I inject the right amount of insulin, well hopefully the right amount I may need a correction 😉 then back to normal on Monday.

My Christmas is starting today, my fave day of the year. I want to see what happens to my BG. I'm going to have fish, chips and mushy peas for dinner. This would be a normal meal back in the day, we'd think nothing of having it a few times a week and with bread and butter too! I shan't have that though, got to draw the line somewhere. 😉 I shall measure my BG before, an hour after and two hours after...see what's what.

I shall be making sure I factor in a few chocolate biscuits over the festive period just on principle!! Had a lunch guest today, who kindly brought a bottle of Cava. And a box of chocolate biscuits, which she handed over with the words 'Of course, you can't have these, but I expect the rest of the family will enjoy them.'

Oh my god I would have had a fair few choice words for her haha although my grandad did try to give me a bar of chocolate the other day which I told him I couldn't have only reason being 2 squares had 13g carbs in and I wasn't going to inject when i fancied a bit of chocolate haha

Fair enough, some things aren't worth the hassle, choccy biccies are one thing I usually resist because I'm not so keen on them that it's worth doing an extra insulin shot. But in this instance...

I had my fish, chips and mushy peas. BG went to 10.4...the highest I've ever seen it. I'm a bit worried about tomorrow now.

I'm tempted with fish & chips after crimbo. If I have them, i'll post my results.

That will be interesting. It's put me right off for tomorrow. I'm not measuring at all after first thing. Don't want a miserable day, ignorance is bliss!

Don't panic Ditto, it will soon drop and the occasional spike at Christmas won't do a whole lot of harm. No doubt you'll not go overboard tomorrow now.

It's already accepted what we're having, prawn cocktail for a start off! Then roast turkey and usual trimmings, though I won't have the cranberry and then pud and brandy butter. I don't like to think what that lots gonna do to my BG. I'm no longer in denial. Cheesed off big time. Just had a sip of Mum's Jack Daniel's agh it made my eyes water.

As long as you don't overdo the roast potatoes and parsnips and have lashings of thickened gravy, that should be a pretty reasonable meal carb wise Ditto. Roast dinners rarely cause me any problems.
Oh I see you're having the pud...that might hurt a bit levels wise! 😱

I will be having just 2 roasties with my Xmas dinner, & the gravy will be thickened with Xanthum gum. I did finally make my low carb yule log, which looks bloody nice imo, but maybe have Christmas pud for xmas day & leave that for Boxing day. The amount of alcohol I'm currently consuming should cancel everything out. I will check my BG on Boxing day morning.

Fish, chips and peas always sends my BG high too! I very rarely have it as a result. It's not worth it for me. Katiex

Not testing today Christmas dinner wasn't to bad chicken sweet potato mash carrots sprouts cauliflower cheese., but had a few chocolates and nuts . My bs has been a bit high the last few days it's been 8 prob because of no excersise

Still waiting for Christmas dinner. We had a brief power cut at 2pm & didn't realise the oven switched itself off!
